Kiki Smith was born in Nurnberg, Germany in 1954. She is the daughter of the late minimalist sculptor Tony Smith - 1912-1980. Kiki Smith is one of the most important artists of her generation. Known primarily as a sculptor, she is a self-described-thing-maker- and works in a variety of media including prints, drawings and photography. From early in her career, Mrs. Smith’s work has dealt with very human issues including mortality and gender and has evolved to include the animal kingdom and the natural world. Her work can be found in every major contemporary museum collection in the world. She lives and works in New York City. She remains in the forefront of the art world today, with frequent solo exhibitions in the United States and Europe.
