The story of the discovery
and the patent

1993: Dr Véronique Simon is Invited to provide care to a princely family in the United Arab Emirates. She is attracted by the radiant, even-toned and caramel coloured complexions of the Ethiopian servants. These women used a plant powder mixed in with water.

During 4 years, Dr. Véronique Simon tries to identify this plant. For her research process, Dr. Véronique Simon manages to open the doors of a genuine institution, the museum of the « Jardin des Plants » botanical gardens in Paris. There she meets Professor Gillet, pupil of the Nobel Prize Jacques Lucien Monod.
This eminent botanist immediately recognizes microscopic image of the plant.
He also discovers in bibliography that this plant had been used in Ancient Egypt for women’s beauty care.

The active principles are minute spikelet the « Phytocytes ». Due to their shape, size, flexibility and consistency, they penetrate into the skin’s surface layers through massage and gently remove them, gradually leaving the skin satinysmooth and as soft as a child’s. The evelopment of the micro peeling was long and difficult as it was necessary to preserve the effectiveness and integrity of the « Phytocytes » in a cosmetic base.

Analyse the cutaneous penetration of the « Phytocytes » by comparison to the non-penetration of exfoliators into the skin.
METHOD: « Tape stripping »
One forearm was rubbed with « Phytocytes » and the other forearm with an exfoliator. The skin’s surface layer was sampled using a series of adhesive bands which were observed under a microscope. On the first adhesive band of stripped-off skin, the exfoliator was already
nearly gone because it does not penetrate the skin. At the same time there are still « Phytocytes » visible on the third and the fourth bands because they succeed in penetrating the skin. The exfoliator simply rubs the skin’s surface, where as the « Phytocytes» penetrate into the skin to remove it more from within. Evaluation Test of
